Submitted by Helen Baxter on Thu, 11/09/2008 - 15:03
Thanks to Jim Hance from Strangely Drawn for contacting us to say that he is amazing artist behind the Mona Leia that we re-animated in Episode 2. We love Leia so are stoked to find a whole gallery of awesome artworks available for sale at his Strangely Drawn artblog.
Jim's pieces are all based around Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Cult Movies, TV & Comedy Legends. I really love his style and anyone who has a Lego A Team working on their website has to be geektastic. For more visit: strangelydrawn.com/blog
Jim has a You Tube Channel with clips of his speedpainting at JimJeroo's Videroobles and I found this wonderful clip of the artist himself with the Mona Leia.
Seven Lessons from Albert Einstein
Submitted by Helen Baxter on Thu, 17/07/2008 - 19:14
Success Soul relays seven lessons from Albert Einstein, who showed that genuis can come from outside the school / college / university system and beleived that "It is a miracle that curiosity survives the formal education."
"Arguably, the smartest man ever born, Albert Einstein was average at best in his school years. He shunned certain classes for the mediocrity of education. He mocked some teachers who were irritated by his lack of obedience. His Greek grammar teacher, Joseph Degenhart, achieved immortality in the history books through insisting that “nothing would ever become of you.”
Later, when Einstein was told it would be best if he left the school, Degenhart had explained, “Your presence in the class destroys the respect of the students.” Disgusted by the rote teaching, he quit high school at the age of fifteen. The rest is history."
Christian Terrorists get a Real-Life Rick-Rolling
Submitted by Chelfyn on Thu, 17/07/2008 - 14:21
This is a brilliant clip of a One-Man Gay Parade, Rick-Rolling a bunch of christian fundamentalists who had been protesting outside a gay club in Florida. They were threatening that anyone going inside would burn in hell forever, in an attempt to change their behaviour. This Real-Life Rick-Roll is a work of Extreme Meme Genius.
While non-violent, this religious protest is still a prime example of terrorist tactics - using fear for social manipulation to one's own ideals. This is why I use the word terrorist in the headline in an attempt to make people think what the word really means.
It doesn't mean 'Arab' or 'Enemy'. It means one who uses fear and terror to affect political change, which is exactly what these guys are trying to do here, as are most mainstream news and media channels, and several western governments right now. If you think I'm somehow diluting the meaning of the word, because these aren't terrorists setting car bombs, remember that media-defined terrorists are judged guilty for their public threats, as well as their direct actions.
