Real-time Collaboration Tools
With the costs of petrol rising fast and companies feeling the squeeze, the home based workspace is becoming an appealing choice. Changing attitudes have been forced by a smaller pool of skilled workers to draw on and the need to look outside one's own city region or country for experienced people.
Now that the internet is a core part of every 21st Century company, organisations relying on face to face communications may not be able to afford that luxury for much longer. Large central studios or expensive offices spaces can be replaced with distributed, networked and often home-based teams. Which is a great step toward the fabled perfect work/life balance that has been promised since the birth of the computer age.
I have been teleworking internationally for over ten years, having been an online editor, community manager, columnist, and now IPTV producer & animatrix. One thing I have learnt from riding out the first dotcom wave is to stay small, efficient and flexible, by using creative workflows & real time collaboration tools.

Aspergers & the Geek Syndrome (podcast)

The recent case of teen Hacker Owen Thor Wilson caught running an illegal botnet, has highlighted Asperger's Syndrome in the IT Industry and geek community. I think the New Zealand judge did the right thing giving him a second chance, as he is the product of enforced social isolation, bullying and misunderstanding.
Aspergers Syndrome is considered to be on the milder end of what is now called the Autistic Spectrum, and I am a strong supporter of autism advocacy for three reasons. Firstly some of the brightest and best geeks I have worked with have been aspies. Secondly I am married to an amazing clever, creative geek who is an aspie boy, and finally in a rare quirk of genetic fate - I myself am an aspie girl.

Colour is very important to me and strongly affects the way I feel. It was the long, grey UK days that made me flee to New Zealand, a land filled with sunlight and vivid colours. I love the tropical blues, deep lush greens and bleached out beachside towns, like living 1970s movies shot on old 8mm film. The shimmering east coast with creamy white dunes, and the dark, dramatic west coast with inky black volcanic sand. I went through a few major colour phases throughout my early twenties. From the black years, to the blue years, an obsession with all things fluoro, then back to black with bright flashes. My current obsession is with bright vampy reds, and the deep rich purple I mix for my hair thanks to Fudge Paintbox.

DIY TV with MsBehaviour (podcast)
Listen to DIY TV with MsBehaviour on Radio Wammo for Kiwi FM.
We are entering an exciting phase in the world of DIY TV and it is about time In My Humble Opinion. When I occasionally get a glimpse at 'free TV', I wondering who is paying me for the ad time we are expected to endure daily? It's great to see the Big Idea's You Tube channel launching this week, taking our creative community into the multi-media millennium. I am also excited about the imminent launch of the g33k show which I am producing and hosting with Chelfyn. We are using brave new tools to replace the need for huge crews, on less than the budget blown on TV network lunches each year. You can watch the first episode of the g33k show on Alt TV at 8 p.m. from Friday, August 1st.
