ubot - The Real WALL-E
Submitted by Ms Behaviour on Thu, 10/07/2008 - 12:08Robots to help the elderly may be here sooner than you think. In South Korea they are drawing up an ethical charter for Robot Rights, and Japanese Robotics are said to date back over four hundred years:
"Among Japan's oldest robots are the karakuri ningyo, or mechanical dolls. Karakuri ningyo are believed to have originated in China. During the Edo period (1603-1867), Takeda-za developed a mechanical-puppet theater which flourished in Osaka's Dotonbori district." (Wikipedia: Japanese Robotics)
So if, like me you are planning on staying child-free, then a Ubot may be very handy around the house in a few years. Video thanks to ScienceHacks, where every video is screened by a scientist for accuracy.
The Conscience of a Hacker

This vintage post titled the Hacker's Manifesto is from wayback in January 1986. It shows inside the mind of a young Hacker called The Mentor, written just after their arrest. (Pic: Thiravudh Khoman)
"Another one got caught today, it's all over the papers. "Teenager Arrested in Computer Crime Scandal", "Hacker Arrested after Bank Tampering"... Damn kids. They're all alike.
But did you, in your three-piece psychology and 1950's technobrain, ever take a look behind the eyes of the hacker? Did you ever wonder what made him tick, what forces shaped him, what may have molded him? I am a hacker, enter my world...
